Pak break hearts in Sydney, Hauritz shines

Australia 127 and 381 (Hussey 134*, Kaneria 5-151) beat Pakistan 333 and 139 (Umar Akmal 49, Hauritz 5-53, Johnson 3-27) by 36 runsnathanhauritzteam_313

Sydney: Pakistan broke millions  of hearts around the world as they went down by 36 runs to Australia and failed to register their first Test win Down Under in 14 years. After dominating the second Test for three days, the visitors allowed the hosts to post a tricky target of 176 to chase on day four and then capitulated to spinner Nathan Hauritz, who picked up his second five-wicket haul in as many matches. Hauritz returned figures of five for 53 from 12 overs to give the hosts an unassailale 2-0 lead in the three-Test series.

Michael Hussey, who hit a brilliant 134 not out and was involved in a crucial 123-run ninth-wicket stand with Peter Siddle, was adjudged Man of the Match. With this win, Australia became only the sixth team in Test history to win a game after trailing by 200-plus runs in the first essay. Pakistan lost the plot this morning when Hussey and Siddle struck up the improbable partnership. Playing overnight with eight wickets down and with a lead of only 80 runs, Hussey and Siddle were a picture in obstinacy as they made the visitors sweat in the first session.

Danish Kaneria, with five for 151, was the most successful bowler for Pakistan in the second innings. During the chase, the visitors made their intentions clear of going for the runs from the word go with openers Imran Farhat andSalman Butt notching up 34 runs from the first seven overs. But Doug Bollinger then struck for the hosts, removing Farhat, andMitchell Johnson picked up two in quick succession to push the Pakistanis on the backfoot. From 34 for one, they slumped to 51 for three and were then reeling at 77 for five. Umar Akmal was the lone Pakistan player who showed some stomach to fight hitting 49 runs. He was eighth wicket to fall and the hosts then needed just 19 more deliveries to wrap up the match.
